Vogen Cusade Battle 5

Crusade Mission - Incursion - Supply Cache

With Chaplain Gregorios having failed to assassinate Big Mek Nogbugg, the freshly healed Captain  Arastos gathers his full strike force to recover a large supply of munitions and supplies from yet another crash site of a downed imperial transport. The Orks, led by Warboss Bonekleava, have proven rather adept at bringing down targets with supplies to fuel their waaagh. Moving into the dense city sector on foot, the Imperial Fists are determined to stem the Orks here, and now.

Agendas

Imperial Fists:
        1. Angels of Death
        2. Cull the Hordes

Goffs:
        1. Kingslayer
        2. Reaper

Pre-game

Goffs won the roll and chose to be the Defender, so they can choose deployment zones after the objectives are placed.

Goffs won the roll and had to go first, which they were more than willing to do.

The Imperial Fists start with 9 CP to the Goffs 6, due to the difference in Crusade Blessings.

Deployment

Strike Force Arastos, in all its glory, arrayed to maximize
its firepower. That ruin is obscuring though.

Most of Waaagh! Bonekleava.

The rest of Waaagh! Bonekleava.

Turn 1 - Goffs

Skrag's Gretchin Advance onto Obj 2, hiding in the shadows,
hoping not to be noticed.

Boss Zagstruk jumps onto Obj 4 using Full Throttle,
and does not take a wound for his efforts.

The bulk of the Waaagh! Advances, bellowing their
war cries and racing to get stuck in.

Showing the rest of the boyz how it's done.

Goregasha leads his Nobz in an early charge, hurtling through the ruins at breakneck speed, watching as one of his Nobz eats a Heavy Bolter round. They trade blows with Tactical Squad Beta in an fairly even match, killing one marine while only taking one wound in return.

Turn 1 - Imperial Fists

Devastator Doctrine is active.

Chaplain Gregorios utters the Recitation of Focus, and Terminator Squad Hektor finds it inspiring.

Undaunted by the early assault of their lines, the Fists
resolutely advance toward the objectives.

Rounding the wall, Nikephoros draws a bead on Zagstruk,
inflicting 5 damage.

Hektor uses Fury of the First, as well as Recitation of Focus,
to enable the assault cannon to hit on 2+, then smashes into
Boneshredda'sSkarboyz. In return they hack down two Terminators.

Trying to slow the avalanche of green, the Razorback
plows into the tide of flesh.

Zagstruk interrupts and inflicts 5 damage on Nikephoros.

Enraged, Nikephoros pastes Zagstruk with an additional 5 damage
from his dreadnought chainfist.

Jawchoppa's Skarboyz surge forward onto the Razorback, inflicting 9 damage.

Arastos, charging into Goregasha's Nobz, pulps three of them outright,
leaving just Goregasha covered in, um, gore.

Turn 2 - Goffs

Score
10 - Control one or more objectives.
10 - Control more objectives than the opponent (4-0)

Big Mek Nogbugg, Painboy Bloodcuttah and Warboss
Bonekleava push deep into the Fists' lines.

Boneshredda and his Skarboyz leg it...

...but he rounds up some more Skarboyz that were in the
vicinity, and they come back for another go.

Boneshredda's Skarboyz immediately charge the remneants
of Beta Squad.

Big Mek Nogbugg charges Squad Alpha, Painboy Bloodcuttah
charges Chaplain Gregorios, and Warboss Bonekleava heads straight
for Captain Arastos.

Bonekleava brings the fight right to Arastos...

Fighting first, Bonekleava throws out 6 attacks, hitting 8 times (gotta love Goffs), and wounding 8 times. Arastos fails four of his Storm Shield saves, takes 9 damage, shrugs 3 of them thanks to his Adamantine Mantle, uses a CP re-roll to try to save one more, fails and is slain!

...and drops him, in one round of glorious combat. That's
a notch in the belt.

Captain Arastos used Only in Death Does Duty End to attack on death. He swung his hammer 5 times, wounded three times, but the gaze of Gork, or possibly Mork, was upon the beast, and only one of the blows landed squarely, dealing 3 damage.

Chaplain Gregorios interrupts, effortlessly smashes Painboy Bloodcuttah,
and consolidates into Bonekleava.

Big Mek Nogbugg stomps his way into Squad Alpha, and
uses Da Killa Klaw and Brutal but Kunnin' to great effect,
smashing four marines in the blink of an eye. Orks have
eyelids, right?

Boneshredda's Skarboyz pile into Squad Beta...

...and utterly annihilate and overrun their position.

Not to be outdone, Jawchoppa's Skarboyz pile into the Razorback,
completely trash it (forgot to Loot It!) ...

...and consolidate into Brother Nikephoros, who promptly
killed 4 boyz for their efforts.

At the end of the fight phase, Bonekleava used Get Stuvk In, Ladz
to fight again, this time against Chaplain Gregorios. He lashed out 6 times,
hit 6 times, wounded 4 times, but Gregorios's Rosarius held, only allowing
one strike to land for 3 damage.

In the Morale phase, Sgt Beta felt he was overmatched,
and fled...nope, withdrew...to fight another day.

Turn 2 - Imperial Fists

Tactical Doctrine is active.

Chaplain Gregorios utters the Litany of Hate, and everyone around him finds it inspiring (6").
Score
10 - Hold one or more objectives.

Hektor used Fury of the First to unload a volley into
Boneshredda's Skarboyz, then charged into Big Mek Nogbugg,
killing him, inflicting 9 damage total.

Squad Gamma also unloaded into Boneshedda's Skarboyz,
then hurled themselves into the maw of ravenously flailing choppas.

Warboss Bonekleava interrupts...

...and does not waste the opportunity, just managing
to drop Gregorios. Another notch on the belt!

Jawchoppa's Skarboyz continue to pile into and surround
Brother Nikephoros, but he saves all ten (10!) choppa wounds,
and the Power Klaw only does 1 damage. (Wound counter
not changed in pic.) He killed another boy in return.

In the Morale phase, Boneshredda's Skarboyz failed their Morale, but Warboss Bonekleava used his Breakin' Heads ability to maintain order, only having to kill 3 boyz to do so.

Turn 3 - Goffs

Score
10 - hold one or more objectives
10 - hold more objectives than opponent

Warboss Bonekleava and Nob Goregasha eye up
Squad Hektor...

...they charge in, after inflicting 2 damage with a slugga
and a kustom shoota, of all things...

...Bonekleava attacks first, killing only 2 terminators, but
Goregasha finishes off Sgt Hektor, smashing him to bloody
pulp with his powerklaw.

Jawchoppa's Skarboyz begin to bring the full weight of the numbers to bear...

...hacking, chopping, spitting and cursing until the giant walker topples.

Squad Beta trades blows with the remnants of Boneshredda's
Skarboyz. Knowing they are the last Imperial Fists standing,
and watching the xenos streaming towards them from all
sides, they know their time is short.

Turn 3 - Imperial Fists

Assault Doctrine is active.

Chaplain Gregorios lies in a pool of his own blood. He recites no litanies this turn.

Score

Boneshredda's Skarboyz get to attack first...

...and complete the destruction of Strike Force Arastos!

Summary

Ouch.

I really thought the combined firepower of all those bolters would make fairly short work of the Skarboyz mobs, but that combo of Kustom Force Field and Painboy 6+++ slows down the damage from Firstborn juuust enough that the Orks can regularly make use of Unstoppable Green Tide to recycle one unit of boyz. And in a roughly 1000 point game (50 PL per army), getting an extra 250 points worth of S5 choppa awesomeness is really strong. I don't think there would be that much difference if I were to run Primaris Intercessors. They would die just as fast, though I guess they could use Transhuman Physiology to slow down the incoming damage. Interesting.

Next game up is Incursion - The Relic. Someone is walking away with a trinket. And the Imperial Fists need to figure out a way to stem the Ork assaults, or the city of Vogen may be lost forever to the greenskins! That'll be next month.

Until next time, happy gaming!
