Test Game for Custom Mission

Test Game: Take the Walls [Custom Mission]

One of the things we want to do is play out an attacking force breaching a city, and fighting their way into it (hopefully). Since there isn't a mission which lays out how to do this, we are trying to figure out what point totals, special rules and/or other things need to be addressed.

In this mission, the attacker is trying to force a breach in the defender's city walls. Even though the Imperium is the attacker for the Damaocles Gulf Crusade, we figured it didn't matter who attacked and defended, since we are trying to figure out how to make the mission work, for all armies.

So the Marines defended for our test game, and things did not go so well for the attackers. Since both sides had 2000 points, trying to force a breach in a line of Marines who are dug in a defensive position and don't have to move was a difficult proposition, as you will see.

Following Ahriman's trouncing of the Librarian Conclave, an almost recovered Captain Lysander orders 3rd Company, with Dreadnought and 1st Company support, to take control of the battlefield, recover the bodies of the fallen Conclave and their bodyguard, and to capture Ahriman so that he can face justice for ten thousand years of treason.

The Long War Battle 4

Ahriman's Vengeance

Scenario Source: Battle Missions Book
Mission: Scorched Earth (Chaos Space Marines)
Points: 2000
Armies: Emperor's Shields / Tzeentch

The Librarius Conclave and their Assassin allies were victorious in the previous battle. While this might be a good thing most of the time, it seems to have raised the ire and attention of Ahriman himself, who has seen fit to put those Loyalist Psykers in their place. With a strong force of Thousand Sons, attendant Sorcerors and his own protege, Ahriman leads his forces onto the field.

Emperor's Shields Counter Attack

The Slaanesh army was victorious in the previous battle, so they cannot change their list. The Marines, having processed the after action reports, which detailed a Demon Princess ( or 3), have dispatched a Librarius Conclave to investigate, and if the reports are true, to send the foul creature back to the Immaterium.

Due to Lysander being a named character, and having been gravely wounded in the previous battle, he is unable to participate in this battle. The Long War Campaign: A Guide

Campaign Guidelines

Here's the outline for this campaign.

It will only involve Loyalist and Chaos Marine armies.

Games will be 2000 points.

The winner of each scenario must keep his army the same, no changes may be made except in the case of a named character being removed from play. In that case, the named character must miss as many games as he has wounds.

The loser of each scenario can change as much or as little of his army as he wishes, including tailoring to specifically defeat the foe who just defeated him.

Following each battle, the next scenario will be determined based on the outcome of the just finished game.

Hopefully, any of our miniatures that aren't painted will be painted by the next battle. But no promises!!

We are using the scenarios from the Battle Missions book, and adjusting them as we see fit. Also, some of the scenarios will be taken from the Cities of Death book.

And that's pretty much it. Here's hoping there's much carnage in the near future!!

Welcome!

What to look forward to...

The gaming group I am part of is going to publish our games in our ongoing campaigns set in the Warhammer 40K universe. We all enjoy reading about the games and campaigns of other players, so we thought we'd return the favour and share our games.

Warning! While we do strive to make sure we get all the rules right, we also play out our battles in a manner which we believe is fitting "in universe". This means sometimes we will make moves which some people will realize are not the most optimal choice.

Most of our games will be played in a campaign setting. One off games are rare. We will only be publishing one battle report a month. Pesky real life interference. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed playing them!
