The final match-up for Warzone Octarius Phase 1 Stage 1 to determine which Alliance takes the first step on their path to ultimate victory. Can the firepower of the Tau overcome the added resilience of Armour of Contempt? Let's find out.

Battle Size: Combat Patrol - 25 PL

Mission: Sweep and Clear

Mission Victor Bonus: 2 units can be Marked for Greatness.

Strike Force Arastos: Know No Fear (+2 XP per passed Morale test)

Deployment

Strike Force Arastos was able to choose their position on the battle field.

Sul'an sends Strike Team Els'im on a Shadow Mission - Disrupt Supply Lines, so off they go into Strategic Reserves.

Hektor and Captain Arastos take up a solid defensive
position in the ruined basilica.

In the shadow of a large ruin.

Fireblade Sul'an leading from the front...behind a building.

Turn 1

Devastator Doctrine active.

Sul'an chooses Kau'yon Tactical Philosophy, knowing he has Strike Team Els'im off on a Shadow Mission, and arriving late in the battle.

Murakan sidles to the side to be just in range of Hektor, while Sul'an
damages the first obective. Murakan inflicted no damage.

In response, Hektor Advances onto the center objective while Arastos holds their home objective. Hektor deploys The Shield Unwavering (+1 Sv, +1 A on obj) to mitigate the incoming firepower.

Score    Tau: 10        Fists: 10

Turn 2

Tactical Doctrine active.

Strike Team Els'im fails to accomplish Shadow Mission.

Wary of a full squad of Terminators and the sheer power they wield, Sul'an ensures there is a healthy gap between him and them, while still claiming his home objective.

Murakan pours firepower into Hektor from the right flank, while Piranha Ren'as engages from the left flank. Together, they kill 2 Terminators. Armour of Contempt and The Shield Unwavering is ignoring AP -2, which is seriously reducing the Tau firepower.

Hektor moves to the left to engage Murakan, inflicting 1 damage. The use The Shield Unwavering again.

Score        Tau: 20        Fists: 30

Turn 3

Tactical Doctrine active.

Kau'yon Tactical Philosophy active (6+).

Strike Team Els'im accomplishes Shadow Mission (rolled a 5+). During the Fists Command Phase, the Fists will not get a CP if the Tau roll a 5+.

Hunter Cadre Sul'an commits to the attack.

Murakan and Ren'as team up to use Coordinated Engagement, but only manage to kill 1 Terminator with an Overcharged Ion Cannon shot. Everything else is turned aside by the terminator armour.

Pincer moves always work, right?

In response, Hektor moves up, shoots Ren'as, it Wrecks and explodes, wounding Sul'an, and they assault Murakan, inflicting 12 damage, leaving the Hammerhead with 2 wounds.

Arastos uses the cover of the wall...

...and chages Nishino of the damaged AI, inflicting 6 damage.

Score:        Tau 30        Fists: 50

Turn 4

Assault Doctrine active.

Kau'yon (5+) active.

Nishino Falls Back onto the Fists home objective, and Murakan uses Backup AI to also Fall Back onto the center objective, even though it's a smoking flaming mess barely able to stay in the air.

Hektor threatens Sul'an directly.

Arastos chases after Nishino.

After blowing Murakan out of the sky with a deadly volley, Hektor smashes into Sul'an.

Arastos inflicts another 3 damage on Nishino.

After pulping Sul'an, Hektor controls both obectives.

Score        Tau: 50        Fists: 50

Turn 5

Assault Doctrine active.

Kau'yon (4+) active.

Forgot that Nishino can't use strats, and he used Backup AI to be able to Fall Back onto the central objective after...

...Strike Team Els'im disembarked, and performed the Damage Objective action for 1 XP.

Hektor can't shoot Els'im as they are behind the building, so they shoot and charge Nishino, wrecking it, but he does not explode.

Arastos crashes into Els'im...

...killing 2, and taking no damage, either from Overwatch of their melee attacks, but he cannot wrest control of the objective away from them.

Score        Tau: 50        Fists: 80

The Stage 1 victory goes to the Attackers! They gain the Victor Bonus of "Strategic Gambit", which reads as follows:

At the start of the battle, you can decide to make a Strategic Gambit. If you do so, and you win the battle, you gain 1 additional Planetary Assault point from that battle. If you do so, and you lose the battle, your opponent gains 1 additional Planetary Assault point from that battle.

We are changing up  the missions in the future. We are going to try using the Tempest of War mission pack, as well as using Agendas.

Until next time, happy gaming!
