X'ar Kunn facing off against theTerminators.

The Eaters of the Dead won the roll and chose to be the Attackers. We placed the four objectives, and discovered you can't achieve the second of the Primary objectives, which was awesome. The two forces were deployed, Strike Force Arastos won the roll off and chose to go first.

Agendas

Imperial Fists
Reaper            +2 XP for single unit with highest Kill tally
Priority Target    +2 XP for each Vehicle / Monster killed by each unit.

Deployment

Squad Drakon and Nikephoros in the center of the line.

Squads Hektor and Isokrates form the right of the battle line.

Lycon the Inevitable anchors the right of the Chaos line.

The bulk of the Eaters form the center of the battle line.

The Spineshivers form the left wing.

Overview of just how small the battle map is (30 x 44). The red dice are marking out the edge of the map. Squad Thanatos is pictured in the upper left.

Turn 1 - Strike Force Arastos

Squad Thanatos advancing toward an objective while hiding from Lycon the Inevitable.

The rest of Strike Force Arastos moves forward, storm bolters roaring. Squad Hektor spent 2 CP on The Shield Unwavering, preparing for the incoming shitstorm.

The firepower kills 9 Daemonettes, the last flees, denying a Reaper tally. One bike is also killed, and Lycon the Inevitable takes some minor damage.

Points
Strike Force Arastos: 0
Eaters of the Dead: 0

Turn 1 - Eaters of the Dead

X'ar Kuun, supported by the bulk of the Eaters move right toward the mass of Terminators.

The Eaters poured almost all their buffed firepower (5 CP - Command Reroll, Veterans of the Long War, Excrutiating Frequencies, Endless Cacophony) into Squad Hektor (5 CP - The Shield Unwavering, Transhuman Physiology, Pain is a Lesson). The end result was 1 dead Terminator. Lycon the Inevitable chose to shoot at Squad Drakon (in the street) and also killed one Terminator.

X'ar Kunn charges Squad Hektor, after needing to spend a CP on Honour the Prince. Squad Hektor pops Tranhuman again in response, and they only lose one more Terminator, while dealing some wounds back to X'ar Kuun.

X'ar Kuun and Varrak both tallied one Lord of the Warp agenda.

Points
Strike Force Arastos: 0
Eaters of the Dead: 0

Turn 2 - Strike Force Arastos

Squad Hektor outnumbers X'ar Kunn, so they claim the objective they are fighting over for 10 points and both sides each hold one, so no Hold More.

Strike Force Arastos continues their general advance.

Squad Drakon (CML) move up the street to engage Lycon the Inevitable. Brother Nikephoros supports them with the firepower from his Kheres Assault Cannon (which looks like a Twin Heavy Bolter, but isn't), taking Lycon down to 6 wounds. Squad Isokrates maneuvers to engage the two Bikers with their Storm Bolters and wipe them out.\

Squad Thanatos advances onto an objective, eyeing Lycon nearby.

Rather then Fall Back, Squad Hektor stay engaged with X'ar Kuun, determined to bring him down.

Squad Hektor gets assistance from Chapter Master Aratos (left) and Brother Nikephoros (behind) to subdue X'ar Kuun.

Attacking first with Arastos for fluff reasons, he inflicts no damage. Then attacking with Nikephoros, he inflicts 4 wounding hits with his Dreadnought Fist, only to have all four 5+ saves passed by the evil Daemon Prince. Ugh. Squad Hektor do manage to strip 2 wounds off the big bastard though. X'ar Kunn then finishes off Squad Hektor to gain a Reaper tally. Not what needed to happen right there, for the Fists.

Squad Drakon charges Lycon, and knocks him to 2 wounds left, but lose two battle brothers in the process, but they deny him the objective.

Points
Strike Force Arastos: 10
Eaters of the Dead: 0

Turn 2 - Eaters of the Dead

Brother Nikephoros is contesting the objective with Sorceror Verrak, and X'ar Kuun is still outnumbered on the other objective, so the Eaters of the Dead get no points this turn.

X'ar Kunn turns to face Chapter Master Arastos, preparing to engage in a brutal duel to the death.

It was not to be though. Both X'ar Kuun and Verrak each tallied another Lord of the Warp point, with Kuun super-smiting Arastos for 6 mortal wounds, executing him. X'ar Kuun gained another Reaper tally. Great....just great. He and Lycon the Inevitable then kill Brother Nikephoros, who failed to explode, unfortunately. But X'ar Kuun gained yet another Reaper tally.

Noise Marines use Veterans and Excruciating Frequencies on Squad Isokrates, and they are in position to claim the objective next turn. The Spineshivers Bikers charge into Squad Isokrates, killing one, leaving two.

The Hound prepares to claim an objective next turn.

Points
Strike Force Arastos: 10
Eaters of the Dead: 10

Turn 3 - Strike Force Arastos

Squad Isokrates and Squad Thanatos each claims an objective this turn for 10 points.

Leaving the Spineshivers to deal with the remnants of Squad Isokrates, X'ar Kuun, Lycon, Verrak and the Silver Blades Noise Marines watch the approach of Squad Thanatos.

Squad Thanatos makes its way through the shattered landscape, realizing they are too far away to help.

Thanatos assaults The Hound...

...and make short work of him, with no explosion, earning a tally in both Reaper and Target Priority.

Points
Strike Force Arastos: 20
Eaters of the Dead: 10

Turn 3 - Eaters of the Dead

The Spineshivers failed to finish off Squad Isokrates and lost 2 Bikers, so they are now outnumbered on the Objective, so only the Silver Blades Noise Marines claim an objective this turn for 10 points.

Having lost 2 Bikers on the turn they charged, the Spineshivers Champion single-handedly finishes off the remnants of Squad Isokrates.

Lycon the Inevitable moves into a blocking position to protect X'ar Kuun after the Silken Blades popped Excruciating Frequencies on Squad Thanatos.

Points
Strike Force Arastos 20
Eaters of the Dead: 20

Turn 4 - Strike Force Arastos

Thanatos claims an objective for 10 points as they prepare to go annihilate the rest of the Eaters of the Dead.

Squad Thanatos prepares to charge...

...and easily dispatch the severely damaged Dread, earning a tally in both Reaper and Target Priority. They didn't Pile In to X'ar Kuun, though they probably should have.

Points
Strike Force Arastos: 30
Eaters of the Dead: 20

Turn 4 - Eaters of the Dead

X'ar Kuun and Verrak before the Psychic onslaught.

X'ar Kuun cast Smite, earning him another Tally in Lord of the Warp. Verrak cast Smite and Chaos Familiar to swap out his power to Death Hex, removing Thanatos's 3++. The Silver Blades then fired, and killed the wounded terminator. X'ar Kuun then charged in and just managed to kill the three remaining members of Squad Thanatos, earning him another tally of Reaper.

Points
Strike Force Arastos: 30
Eaters of the Dead: 30

Turn 5 - Strike Force Arastos

Since they've been tabled, no points this turn.

Turn 5 - Eaters of the Dead

Score 20 points for holding one and holding more objectives.

Final Score
Strike Force Arastos: 30+10 (battle ready) = 40
Eaters of the Dead: 50

Summary

Well, that was bloody. I love getting tabled. The rate at which some units can gain XP is just astounding. You could end up with some VERY experienced units very quickly. It remains to be seen how this all affects balance, but it was a very fun first game.

Until next time, happy gaming!
